Winter War Cover Reveal

April 3, 2019 by Kevin Maguire

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 4 is almost done. It’s titled Winter War and the cover is ready. It has the same tone as the first three but I made a major change…just like the books themselves.

The first three books were short stories and I had planned the whole series that way. But the reviews have been clear, people want longer books. Winter War will be novel length. The rest of the books in the series will be 50,000 words or more.

I expect the book to be released in April 2019.

Winter War is now available. Check it out here.

Aftermath of Disaster Book 3 Cover Reveal

October 29, 2018 by Kevin Maguire

Olivia – my awesome cover designer – just delivered the new cover. Miles – the awesome editor – says he should be done by the weekend. So I think this book should be ready by the second week of November 2018.

It’s been two months since the end of the last book. Jack, Diane, Robin, and a host of others are on a rescue mission. Meanwhile, the terrorists have other plans.

The audio book will be available about a month later. Unfortunately, that is a slow process.

Summer’s End is available now!

Aftermath of Disaster: Diggin In Audiobook

August 27, 2018 by Kevin Maguire

Audible is ahead of schedule and approved the files for Diggin In already. I wasn’t expecting it until next week. I was just sitting down and writing a short story for an contest when the email came in. The contest has a maximum of 6000 words, so I may end up putting it as bonus content in an upcoming book. I’ll have to check all the rules on that first. If Amazon is ok with it, I’ll do it.

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 Diggin In Audiobook

If you’ve never tried audiobooks before, you can use this link to get a free trial of Audible and get Diggin In for free. If you’re in the UK, you’ll need to use this link instead.

I have a new narrator, Warren Keyes, for this one. He’s got a great voice and he nailed it.  I think you’ll like him!

Here is a sample of the audiobook:

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 Diggin In

July 23, 2018 by Kevin Maguire

Hello everyone, the day has arrived and sooner than I expected!

I uploaded the book to Amazon today and didn’t expect it to be approved until tomorrow, so I’ve been in a rush getting things ready. The plan was to make the video and get this page ready today, then make it all live and send the email tomorrow. Then I had to get the review copy page done.

But I hunkered down and got it all done in a hurry. My video doesn’t have a custom thumbnail yet though.

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 Diggin In

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 Diggin In is available now! As mentioned in the previous post, this book is twice the size as Book 1.

This is the current description on Amazon:

The follow up to the best-seller has arrived!

Continue the journey of Jack and Diane as they navigate the new reality. With more attacks, the duo and Jack’s group decide this is not a one-off attack.

It’s time to dig in and prepare for what’s coming next. Meet new characters and find out what the terrorists planned next.

Book 2 – Diggin In has more action, more dialogue, more characters, and intrigue.

End Description

This is the first review that came in on Amazon for this book and I love it. I’ll tell you why after you read it.

“Very good quick read. Author is knowledgeable about the subject. Great character development and story line. Entertaining and educational. Also lacking the unnecessary vulgarity and profanity some authors of this genera feel they need to throw in. Thank you!” `Cathy Stoddard

That last part is something I’ve worked at in the series.  It made me happy that people appreciate it. Of course, the rest of it made me happy too, but that’s why this is my favorite comment from both books.

Book 2 Cover Reveal

July 15, 2018 by Kevin Maguire

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 Diggin In is almost ready for release. It’s still with the editor but I should have it back very soon. I’ll finalize the suggested edits and release it.

For now, here is the cover!

Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 - Diggin In
Aftermath of Disaster: Book 2 – Diggin In

Book 2 is twice the size of Book 1. I did read the reviews and even though I intended the books to be short, I doubled the size.

Fun fact: I titled this one “Digging In” but the cover designer forgot a “G” and I decided to keep it.

More info coming soon!

Prepper Journal & Inventory Log Book

July 10, 2018 by Kevin Maguire

Have you ever had your home burglarized and lost everything? I have and I can tell you it sucks something fierce. Everything I ever worked for was gone. What the thieves didn’t want, they broke. I didn’t’ have a physical copy of my inventory for insurance purposes.

I had a big, heavy TV that was too big to carry away. They threw a hammer through the screen. When I say I lost everything, I mean it. It has lasting effects too. It’s been about 4 years and I still freak out if I don’t remember locking my door. My house was locked up tight, but that doesn’t matter. I’ll still walk back to my apartment, up four flights of stairs, to check my door.

Keeping inventory is great for insurance purposes. I didn’t have a physical book, I kept everything on my computer, laptop, iPad, and external hard drive. The latter two were hidden well, I thought. Nope. So I had no copies of my items. I had to find email receipts, call companies and have them mail me receipts, and go to a lot of stores to get what I needed for the insurance.  It didn’t add up to much. For all my losses, I got about $15,000. Replacing my camera and lenses took half of it. I couldn’t afford to replace both my desktop and laptop, so I got a really good laptop. I’m typing on it right now – about 5 years later.

The worst of it though, was losing my daughter’s baby pictures. I know it’s been 5 years because my daughter was just a few months old when this happened. The only baby photos we have of here are the ones uploaded to Facebook.

If I had a physical copy of everything I would have got a lot more from the insurance company. But there was too much I couldn’t prove. So with this journal I’ve included inventory pages with a space for photos. Photos are great for showing the condition of items. The insurance companies will not pay full price unless you can prove there’s no wear and tear. That’s a problem I had with my camera and lenses. They were all in prime condition. I was a Navy photographer, I take excellent care of my equipment. They were locked up in a safe, by the way.

I was reading a post in a Facebook group a few days ago. A guy lost everything in a fire, it was pretty sad. He said he’d prepared for everything, except a fire. You’ll want your inventory log kept in a fire proof safe with all your other important documents.

Here is what I’ve included in this journal and inventory log book:

  • There are lined pages for writing whatever is on your mind at the moment. Each of those pages has a box for doodles or notes.
  • There are inventory pages to keep track of what you have and a place for a photo of the item(s.) This is a great place to put receipts (or copies of receipts) as well.
  • It has a page for your rotation schedule. When do you rotate your water? What about your food bars and MRE’s? Write it down and know, all in one place for convenience.
  • There are “To Do” list pages so you can always stay on track.
  • The “Weekly Plan” pages also help you stay on track of your life and your prepping goals. If you’re not a big writer or you’re a new prepper, no worries. The weekly plan can easily be a monthly or bi-monthly plan. It’s your journal, set your own pace.

The journal also lets you keep track of what you have, what you want, and what you need. A written plan is a solid plan.

Not having my stuff written down cost me thousands of dollars. The insurance companies are not going to help you and will do everything they can to pay you as little as possible. Don’t let that happen. Whether you buy this journal and inventory log or not, keep a log. Don’t add insult to injury.
